I had been wanting to visit Ukraine, Chernobyl and the city of Pripyat particularly for a good number of years. The dark and rather eerie images I had seen by other photographers had intrigued me and captured my imagination so many times.
Time just didn't allow it...
Finally, in August 2017 I found myself in the air, Ukraine bound.
Chernobyl is such an intriguing place but for me, It was all about Pripyat. The city is an Urban Explorers paradise with its vast number of abandoned buildings and beautiful, natural decay.
I was part of a fast-paced tour so I had little time to consider shots, fortunately, in my mind's eye, I knew which areas of Pripyat I wanted to capture. This is something I do for most locations I visit.
Moving swiftly through the city, I snapped at every opportunity, completely paranoid that I was missing something important. I like to take the time to set up each shot to be certain, as much as I can be, of finally creating something that pleases the eye, to create something beautiful.
Before I knew it, the trip was all but over and I was travelling back to the UK. It had ended as quickly as it started. It was totally exhausting but I only got to see a fragment of what it has to offer, a return trip has to be done, someday. So, now on with the huge task of editing.
Some of the images from that trip are on this site..... Melancholy, Til Death Do Us Part, It Wasn't To Be, Pivotal and Conclusion.
